Davies and Tom Maxfield upon the Slough road when Maxfield won, about 1844; beat William Sheppard of Birmingham at Gannick corner near Barnet £100 a side, doing 11 miles and 48 yards in one hour 6 Jany. 1845; winner of many prizes in England and North and South America; known as the American Deer. _Illust.
