Oxf., B.A. 1839, M.B. 1844, M.D. 1863; studied at St. Bartholomew’s hospital; M.R.C.P., F.R.C.P. 1848, censor 1861–3, councillor 1864–5 and 1875–7; physician to Bethlehem hospital 1848; founded the House of Charity in Rose st. Soho 1846; physician to St. Luke’s hospital 1855–82; president of Medical psychological association 1864; painted his own portrait and that of his father and presented them to royal college of physicians; author of A treatise on stammering 1849; Remarks on insanity, its nature and treatment 1850; On improving the condition of the insane 1851; Articles on reform in private asylums 1852. _d._ 14 Upper Wimpole st.
