114. NERO CLAUDIUS DRUSUS. _Roman General._

[Born at Rome, B.C. 38. Died B.C. 9. Aged 29.] A son of Livia who married the Emperor Augustus, and brother of Tiberius. Victorious in Gaul and Germany. Unflinchingly firm and severe towards all who resisted him, but generous to those who trusted and submitted to him. He married Antonia, the daughter of Marc Antony. His known desire to see the commonwealth restored endeared him to the Roman people. Died in Germany, from an injury sustained in a fall from his horse. [From the marble in the Capitoline Museum, at Rome. See also a statue of him, No. 222, Roman Court.]
