[Born in Kent, 1812. Still living.] Educated at Eton, where he obtained the “Newcastle Scholarship.” Subsequently proceeded to King’s College, Cambridge. In 1837, called to the bar. Is Professor of History in University College, London, and the author of some able historical works. [By E. G. Papworth, jun., by whom it is presented to the Crystal Palace.]
