THE NATURAL HISTORY DEPARTMENT OF THE CRYSTAL PALACE DESCRIBED. ETHNOLOGY. BY DR. R. G. LATHAM, M.D. ZOOLOGY AND BOTANY. BY EDWARD FORBES, F.R.S., Professor in the University of Edinburgh. [Illustration] CRYSTAL PALACE LIBRARY; AND BRADBURY & EVANS, 11, BOUVERIE STREET, LONDON. 1854. BRADBURY AND EVANS, PRINTERS TO THE CRYSTAL PALACE COMPANY, WHITEFRIARS, LONDON. PREFACE. The Natural History, which forms the subject of this Handbook, is of a somewhat more comprehensive kind than the current meaning of the words would suggest. It comprises not only Botany and Zoology proper, but also ETHNOLOGY, or, the Science of Human Races. Ethnology, from the greater novelty of the subject and its comparative importance, occupies the first and larger part of this little volume. The second part is, however, absolutely necessary to the full illustration of the first; and in order that each may reflect due light upon the other, the reader will do well, after going through the notice of each Ethnological group, to refer to the corresponding description in the Botanical and Zoological portion. In the heading of each group is indicated the page for reference. CONTENTS.
