The stars are manifestly alluded to, as being made to disappear when the Sun makes his appearance. ⁂, or in reduplicated form ⁂⁂⁂, is the pupil of the eye; ⁂⁂ is to _ogle, far l’occhiata_. ⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂ on the other hand signifies the _little tremblers_, “tremulo fulgore micantes.” The glance of the eye is ⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂⁂.[144] The stars are here considered as so many eyes, characterised by their tremulous motion.
